REBATES

Each Australian state offers unique solar incentives, with Victoria leading the way through its Solar Homes Program—offering up to $1,400 in rebates for solar panels, up to $1,000 for heat pump systems, and interest-free loans for eligible households.

Nationally, the Federal STC rebate provides significant savings on renewable energy systems. Homeowners can receive $2,000+ off solar panel installations, and from 1 July 2025, battery systems will also be eligible, offering $300–$1,000+ in savings, applied upfront by your installer.

Combining state and federal incentives can dramatically reduce the total cost of installing solar and battery systems—making renewable energy more accessible and affordable than ever.

Federal STC Rebates (Australia-wide)

The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) provides financial incentives for installing eligible renewable energy systems, including solar PV and battery storage systems.

1. Solar PV Systems

  • Rebate Value: Varies based on system size, location, and installation date.

  • Eligibility: Systems up to 100 kW installed by Clean Energy Council (CEC) accredited installers using approved components.

2. Battery Storage Systems

  • Eligibility Date: From 1 July 2025, battery installations paired with solar PV systems become eligible for STCs.

  • Rebate Value: Determined by system capacity and location; applied as an upfront discount by your installer.

Note: The number of STCs decreases annually until the scheme concludes in 2030.

Victoria (VIC) Solar Rebates – Solar Homes Program

Victoria offers generous support for renewable energy adoption through the Solar Homes Program:

1. Solar Panel Rebate

  • Up to $1,400 off solar PV installation.

  • Available to owner-occupiers with a household income below $210,000.

2. Heat Pump Rebate

  • Up to $1,000 for replacing existing hot water with an energy-efficient heat pump.

3. Interest-Free Loan

  • Match the rebate value (e.g. another $1,400 for solar), repayable over 4 years.

4. Who’s Eligible?

  • Owner-occupied homes under $3 million in value.

  • Income and property criteria apply.

5. Why It’s Worth It
Reduces upfront cost, energy bills, and carbon footprint—ideal for families wanting long-term savings.

NSW Battery Rebate with VPP Incentive (from 1 July 2025)

From 1 July 2025, the NSW Government will no longer offer an upfront battery installation rebate. Instead, households and small businesses can access a significantly increased incentive for connecting a new or existing battery to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP). This VPP incentive can be combined with the federal government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which provides an upfront discount on battery purchases.

Key Details:

  • The VPP incentive is now a single, upfront payment of around $55 per kWh for batteries between 2–28 kWh, up to a maximum of $1,500.

  • To be eligible, your battery must be connected to an approved VPP. Not all batteries are compatible, so check with your installer.

  • The VPP incentive is available for both new batteries and existing batteries that join a VPP.

  • This payment is separate from, and can be combined with, the federal battery rebate, but cannot be combined with the now-ended NSW installation rebate.

  • By joining a VPP, you help stabilize the grid, support renewable energy, and can access additional ongoing payments for exporting stored energy during peak demand.

Why consider the VPP incentive?

  • Reduces the upfront cost of a battery when combined with the federal rebate.

  • Helps you pay off your battery faster.

  • Supports a more reliable and sustainable electricity grid for NSW.

If you’re considering a home battery, speak with your installer about VPP compatibility and how to claim both the federal and NSW VPP incentives
