Federal Government Incentives
Take advantage of the Australian government’s Renewable Energy Target (RET) and enjoy significant savings on solar installations. Both homeowners and businesses can benefit from solar incentives:
-
Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES): Ideal for residential properties and small businesses.
-
Large-Scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET): Tailored for larger commercial solar projects.
These federal rebates can cut installation costs by thousands, making solar more affordable than ever. Additional state incentives across NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia offer even more savings.

Federal Government Solar Rebate Program: What You Need to Know
The Australian government’s solar rebate program operates under the Renewable Energy Target (RET), divided into two key components:
-
Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES):
-
Designed for homes and small businesses.
-
Participants earn Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), which reduce upfront installation costs.
-
-
Large-Scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET):
-
For commercial systems over 100kW.
-
Businesses generate Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs), creating an ongoing revenue stream as their solar systems produce energy.
-
How to Take Advantage of These Programs
-
Eligibility: Only installations by Clean Energy Council (CEC)-accredited installers qualify for STCs, ensuring high-quality and safe systems. (Use SolarChoice to find a CEC-accredited installer.)
-
STC Phase-Out: The value of STCs will gradually decrease until the program ends in 2030, so installing sooner ensures maximum savings.
-
Environmental Impact: These programs support Australia’s renewable energy goals by reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability.
-
Business Benefits: Commercial systems generating LGCs can enjoy continuous revenue, making solar both an environmental and financial advantage.
Act now to secure these federal incentives before they phase out and maximize your savings on solar installations!

Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES): How the SRES Solar Rebate Works
The SRES was introduced to help households, small businesses, and community groups lower the cost of installing solar PV systems. It does so by awarding Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) to installations under 100 kW of DC solar panel capacity. These STCs are officially created once a CEC-accredited installer commissions the system.

How STCs Are Calculated
The number of STCs issued depends on:
-
System size: Larger systems generate more certificates.
-
Installation location: Areas with higher solar potential yield more STCs.
-
Years remaining until 2030: Fewer years left in the program mean fewer STCs.
-
Expected energy generation: STCs reflect the system’s forecasted output through to 2030.
Each STC represents 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of renewable energy production. To calculate your STCs, you’ll need to estimate your system’s annual output and multiply it by the number of years remaining until 2030.
